Here is another fine expression from Etna wine artisan Frank Cornelissen. The 2014 Munjebel CS shows hints of rusticity that give the wine its unmistakable personality. There are tones of dried fruit and cassis, with heavier notes of tar and licorice that add grounding and concentration. Compared to the other wines in this Munjebel series, this expression shows a higher degree of darkness and richness. There is zesty cola and a pinch of sour acidity on the close. The wine ages in neutral tanks and vessels; only 1,800 bottles were produced. The CS stands for Contrada Zottorinoto and Chiusa Spagnolo—the two vineyard sites that provide the Nerello Mascalese fruit used in this expression.
