Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2023 Ceibo, the Godello from Valdeorras, has a balsamic nose with notes of bay leaf and ripe yellow fruit. It is ripe at 14% alcohol and has a medium acidity but good overall balance. It matured in oak foudre for seven months, but the oak is neatly integrated, just giving it a creamy and spicy twist. 6,666 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2024.

Features

Description

Albamar Ceibo is a limited-production white wine made exclusively from the Godello variety (100%) in the Valdeorras region of Galicia. The Albamar winery, under the direction of winemaker Xurxo Alba, has carefully selected this plot located 500 metres above sea level, a crucial factor to achieve the distinctive freshness of this wine. The Atlantic climate, combined with the continental influence, contributes to an optimal ripening of the grapes, allowing them to preserve their character and natural acidity.

Winemaking

The vineyard soils are mainly slate, with mixtures of granite and clay, which intensifies the minerality in the wine's profile. This terroir, together with organic farming practices and manual harvesting, allows the terroir to be expressed with precision. The vinification of Albamar Ceibo begins with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, using indigenous yeasts to enhance the flavours of the grapes and the area. The wine is then aged for eight months on its fine lees in French oak barrels (used), which adds a layer of complexity without oversaturating the wine's original profile. This ageing process allows the wine to develop a creamy texture and maintain an elegant integration of the oak.

Taste

Albamar Ceibo offers a rich and balanced organoleptic experience. On the nose, notes of white flowers such as jasmine predominate, combined with hints of aniseed, balsamic and stone fruits such as peach, as well as light citrus hints of lemon. On the palate, it is unctuous and has a medium acidity that brings freshness. Its fleshy texture and volume make it a wine of great presence, with a long and persistent finish that leaves a sensation of harmony and balance. This profile makes it an elegant wine, ideal to enjoy both in the present and in its evolution in the bottle.
