Buy Wine from Joan d'Anguera
Joan dÁnguera is a family winery that has dedicated itself to the production of natural wines, following the philosophy of its founder. The name of the winery comes from a tribute paid to Josep Anguera, who was the forerunner in the production of one of the red wines known as the young wine.
He was a pioneer in the planting of some grape varieties of international origin, such as syrah and cabernet sauvignon, which were introduced in the highest areas of Montsant.
Let's talk about its history
As we mentioned before, the Joan dÁnguera winery was born under the idea of Josep Anguera, who decided to introduce new grape varieties to those already cultivated in the sector.
From the beginning, he tried to ensure that all the grapes maintained the structure in their flavour and aroma, but later he introduced biodynamic techniques to minimise the addition of chemical elements.
When he passed away, the winery was left in the hands of his sons Joan and Josep, who continued the legacy of wine production, achieving much greater success than their father.
However, they maintain the honesty of coming from a winemaking family, and have demonstrated this in their efforts to expand the winery and focus their dedication to the production of natural wines.
In 2008, the Anguera brothers began to transform their vineyards in order to start producing wines in harmony with the "terroir" where they come from, and that is when they began to apply organic farming methods and biodynamic agriculture.
In 2012 they managed to become certified as EU organic wine producers and obtained recognition in the biodynamic agriculture certification "Demeter".
Techniques used
We have already mentioned that this winery started wine production in a different way from what it is today. In the beginning, the wines were characterised by being more structured.
Nowadays, the winemaking methods are artisanal, where biodynamic agriculture and ecological techniques converge to produce natural wines, where you can taste the fruit's own expression.
The vinification depends on the specimen, however, they try to introduce concrete instead of wood, as they want their specimens to maintain the purity and fragrance that characterises them.
Vineyards
Josep Anguera Beyme began the transformation of the old winery, adding another winery of more than 3 hectares, as well as the land adjoining the winery, which was used for a new access.
In 1950, Josep still kept the old Garnacha and Cariñena vines, which were used for the production of the first examples. Later, he introduced other varieties in vogue at the time, such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, gaining the acceptance of local consumers.
Today, these are the grape varieties that are still used in the production of the wines, and which, thanks to the change in the type of agriculture, have managed to conquer an exclusive wine-loving market.
Pure and fragrant wines
Joan d'Anguera is a winery that is characterised by the naturalness of its wines, denoting the purity and fragrance of the terroir from which they come, and the methods used for the transformation of the grapes.
