Description

Valdesil Godello Sobre Lías was born as a tribute to the river Sil, the vital artery of Galicia and the soul of the Valdeorras valley. On these steep slopes, the Prada family decided to break the mould: to create the first Spanish white wine aged on its fine lees in tanks. A brave gamble that today marks a before and after in the history of Godello. Far from passing fads, their philosophy is based on absolute respect for the soil -dark, brittle schist that provides character, structure and a unique minerality- and on patient viticulture, guided by the natural rhythms of the plant. The plots are worked with permanent vegetation cover, without erosion, in balance with the ecosystem.

The grapes for Valdesil Godello Sobre Lías come exclusively from their own vineyards, located in Portela (San Xulián) and Córgomo (Santa Marta), where the continental climate with Atlantic influence allows for slow ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic complexity.

Winemaking

After a manual harvest in small boxes, the grapes destined for Valdesil Godello Sobre Lías are gently pressed to obtain only the free-run juice. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures and prolonged ageing on fine lees, with periodic pumping over, add volume and texture without detracting from the varietal profile or its mineral expression. It is a work of precision and patience, seeking balance, expression and longevity.

Taste

The expression of Valdesil Godello Sobre Lías is sober, elegant and deeply linked to the terroir. On the nose, notes of lime, grapefruit, fennel and white flowers emerge against a saline background reminiscent of wet stone. The palate is enveloping, with a medium-high body, creamy texture and a vibrant acidity that lengthens the length. There are hints of ripe apricot, raw almonds and a delicate bitter finish that adds tension and persistence. It is not a wine of immediate impact, but of depth and subtlety, ideal for those seeking authenticity, minerality and an honest reading of the Galician landscape.
