Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The pale and delicate 2021 Tanuki Bob, another wine from the Gallinas y Focas project, was produced with 90% Mantonegro and 10% Syrah from organic vineyards. It mainly vinified in stainless steel, with 10% of the grapes in a 4,000-liter oak foudre. It matured in 4,000-liter oak foudres. It has a delicate profile, pale, aromatic and elegant, with a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins, keeping 13% alcohol and very good acidity and freshness, reflecting the year. 13,150 bottles produced. This was released in January 2023.

Features

Description

Tanuki Bob is an exceptional wine that emerges from the 4 Kilos Vinícola winery, located in Mallorca, Spain. This wine, with 90% Mantonegro and 10% Syrah, reflects the richness of the region's indigenous varieties. The name "Tanuki Bob", inspired by the Japanese raccoon dog, symbolises luck and prosperity, reflecting the winery's philosophy of creating wines that invite enjoyment and happiness.

Winemaking

The elaboration of Tanuki Bob is a careful and environmentally friendly process. Vinification is carried out by carbonic maceration, introducing whole bunches of grapes into stainless steel tanks, where they ferment and mature for approximately 9 months. This process does not include ageing in wood, which allows the wine to retain a fresh and fruity character, with a minimal sensation of wood.

Taste

Tanuki Bob is a unique and balanced experience. It has a cherry red colour with a low robe. The nose is intensely mineral, with aromas of red cherries, strawberries and hints of mountain herbs. On the palate, the wine has an entry with good acidity, showing a certain rusticity, but with an elegance reminiscent of a Volnay Pinot Noir. It has an adequate weight without being excessively long, and is characterised by being quite vertical.
This wine is ideal to accompany dishes from the Mediterranean diet, such as pasta and rice dishes, highlighting its versatility and ability to complement a wide range of flavours. The recommended serving temperature is around 16°C, which allows its organoleptic qualities to be fully appreciated.
