Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The more traditional 2012 Gran Reserva comes from one of the driest years on record. It's mostly Tempranillo with some 3% Graciano matured in American oak barrels, 25% of them new, for 26 months, despite which, the wine is not excessively oaky. They wanted to keep the traditional profile but adjusted the toast on the barrels to adjust the excessive vanilla and coconut. This is structured, powerful, ripe without excess, spicy and balsamic, developing the bouquet, still young and with very good balance. It should be long lived. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2015.

Features

Description

Sierra Cantabria Gran Reserva is one of the most appreciated wines for its flavour and freshness, while its careful winemaking process makes it an emblematic classic of this well-known brand. It is made mainly with Tempranillo grapes and a smaller proportion of Graciano, which guarantees a unique and distinctive flavour.
The vineyards are located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a region known for its arid and dry climate, ideal for growing Vitis vinifera. Cultivation is carried out in an environmentally friendly manner, respecting the biorhythms of nature.

Winemaking

The first thing to take into account is the manual harvest, which is carried out by carefully selecting each fruit. When the must is extracted, it is blended with indigenous yeasts and undergoes a period of alcoholic fermentation for 10 days. After this procedure, a post-fermentative maceration takes place for a further 8 days.
Finally, the resulting must is aged in American oak barrels for approximately 26 months. This ageing is ideal to develop the flavours to the maximum and to obtain a better result.

Taste

At first, its aroma is floral, with hints of vanilla and wood from the barrel. On the palate, a fruity, spicy and complex aftertaste can be perceived. Its finish is long and structured, so it is common for it to linger on the palate.

A wine tradition within reach of your glass

The complexity and structure of this wine makes it the ideal alternative to accompany a formal dinner, although it can also be enjoyed on its own or with friends. Best of all? It's incredible value for money, so you won't have to spend a fortune to get a top-quality product.
Gastronomically, it is ideal with grilled meats, cured meats, Iberian ham and poultry such as duck or chicken.
What are you waiting for to try it? You'll love it!
