Description
Importantly, Nat Cool is the brainchild of Dirk Niepoort, who sought to respond to a market that wanted natural, fun and easy-to-drink wines to enjoy on a daily basis. This initiative started in Bairrada with the indigenous Baga variety and has expanded to include several wines, with Drink Me Nat Cool Branco being one of its stars.
Drink Me Nat Cool Branco, with Vinho Verde appellation, evokes the "cloudy" wines of the past, bottled with some residual sugar and fine lees, which caused re-fermentation in the bottle.
Winemaking
Made from the local varieties Azal, Arinto, Avesso, Trajadura and Loureiro which come mainly from the sub-regions of Amarante and Lousada. It was made following the traditional method, retaining a few grams of sugar in the wine to ferment again in the bottle. Malolactic fermentation also took place in the bottle. The wine spent 6 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
Taste
With a slightly cloudy appearance, this white wine overflows with personality. It is fresh and vibrant, with citrus and vegetal notes. Uncomplicated and straightforward, it offers high acidity and a light carbonated sizzle on the palate, culminating in a saline, crystalline and refreshing finish.
