Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The intensely yellow colored 2019 Maximin Grünhaus Abtsberg Riesling Superior is very clear and still reductive and flinty on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich, juicy, fruit-intense and even tropical-flavored Abtsberg with significant sweetness a long, tensioned, refreshingly mineral and salty finish. Very long and highly promising. Keep it for at least 7-10 years. Tasted as a sample in April 2020.

Features

Description

Originating from the prestigious wine regions of Germany, Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Superior is a wine that combines tradition, passion and excellence. It represents not only the rich winemaking heritage of the region, but also the innovation and commitment to quality that has characterised the Maximin Grünhaus winery over the years.

Winemaking

This wine stands out for being a 100% Riesling, a variety that has found on the slopes of the Mosel the perfect terroir to express its full potential. Meticulous winemaking and ageing in traditional barrels give it a complexity and structure that distinguish it in the world of wine. Moreover, its origin in the Abtsberg, one of the oldest vineyards of Maximin Grünhaus, gives it a unique character, this terroir being known for its blue slate soil and its particular microclimate.

Taste

The wine displays a range of sensations that reflect the richness of its terroir. On the nose, there are notes of ripe yellow fruit, hints of passion fruit, sweet lime and herbal nuances such as mountain mint. These aromatic notes anticipate a palate where finesse and power go hand in hand. The vibrant acidity, characteristic of Riesling, takes the wine on a journey through the palate, leaving behind a mineral, saline trail and a perfect harmony between sweetness, structure and acidity. The experience culminates in a long, lingering finish, inviting further tasting.
