Description
The Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé wine is a pure expression of the Chardonnay variety, planted exclusively on a clay-limestone soil. This wine comes from the commune of Verzé, extending over 9 hectares, spread over five plots with evocative names such as Les Chênes, En Perret, Le Monté, Escolles and Les Muses. The viticulture is carried out under the principles of biodynamics, a practice that Domaine Leflaive has adopted since the acquisition of the vineyards in 2004, ensuring a commitment to sustainability and respect for the terroir.
Winemaking
The winemaking of Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé is a careful, manual process, from harvesting to pressing, which is carried out gently and over a long period of time. After decanting for 24 hours, the must ferments and rests in the Puligny-Montrachet cellar. Fermentation takes place 78% in stainless steel vats, 10% in wooden vats and 12% in oak barrels, 40% of which are new. Ageing lasts 15 to 16 months, with a period of 10 months on the lees in the fermentation containers, followed by racking to stainless steel tanks where the wine matures on fine lees for a further 6 months. If necessary, natural fining and very light filtration are carried out.
Taste
Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé is a wine that stands out for its great purity, with a floral and mineral character that radiates energy and vivacity. A rich and flavoursome white wine, with a nose combining notes of hydrocarbons, smoke, vanilla and fresh herbs. Tasting reveals a balanced and rounded wine, where flavours of smoke, butter, green apples, lime peel and fresh hay intertwine. The finish is a delightful blend of citrus fruits, which adds a refreshing and pleasing touch to the palate.
