The dark rosé 2023 Gran Caus Rosat could very well be a paler red, because it's not much lighter than the red Sumoll. The last few years were very difficult for the Merlot variety, and the difficulty of the grapes to ripen in the dry conditions of the year could have been an advantage in keeping the crunchy character they are aiming for in this wine. It's serious and kept very high acidity, and the result is a finer and more direct rosé with a medium-bodied palate with vibrant sensations, focused and clean flavors and a dry, serious and chalky feeling. 12,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2024.

Description
The Gran Caus Rosé wine is born from the passion and vision of Carlos Esteva. This rosé wine is presented with the soul and depth of a red wine. Its uniqueness lies in its complexity, depth and distinction, offering a unique personality that faithfully reflects the expression of its terroir.
Carlos Esteva has managed to break with the conventions that sometimes relegate rosé wines to the category of simple and straightforward. With Gran Caus Rosé, he shows that a rosé can be serious, intellectual and, above all, exceptional. Its profile is more akin to light reds than to traditional rosés.
Winemaking
The grape variety used for its production is 100% Merlot. This detail is essential to understand the essence and character of the wine. The winemaking process follows a meticulous process that begins with the selection of the best bunches of grapes. A maceration with the skins is carried out for 18 hours, using only the free-run juice, without pressing. Fermentation is spontaneous and takes place at low temperatures for 40 hours, guaranteeing the preservation of the grape's authentic aromas and flavours.
Taste
Gran Caus Rosé has a pale violet colour, a shade that already indicates its uniqueness. On the nose, it reveals springtime aromas of fresh red fruit: plums, cherries and wild strawberries. These aromas are complemented by essential notes that are also present on the palate, accompanied by mountain herbs. On the palate, there is a remarkable concentration, characterised by a firm, fresh acidity that balances and enhances its flavour.
