Description

Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Rosso is a rich and fragrant wine made entirely from the Nerello Mascalese variety. It comes from different vineyards, partly from the best plots where the crus are produced(Zottorinoto-Chiusa Spagnolo, Feudo di Mezzo-Sottana and Porcaria), as well as from vineyards specifically designated for this wine (Rampante sottana, Piano Daini and Crasà). It is a classic and traditional representation of Nerello Mascalese, with tannins and the sweetness of ripe fruit, reflecting the vision of a traditional, balanced and rich wine from the Northern Etna Valley.

Winemaking

The wine comes from the Etna Region, specifically from the North Valley, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vines are on average over 50 years old. Vinification involves destemming and light crushing of the grapes. Fermentation begins with a foot of vat using only indigenous yeasts and has a skin contact of about 50 days. Ageing takes place in neutral epoxy tanks, with capacities ranging from 2,500 litres to 7,000 litres, for approximately 12 months. No fining is carried out and filtering is done before bottling with 5 micron PP cartridges. Sulphur values can vary between 15 and 50 mg/l, added or not, depending on the quality of the grapes and the stability of the wine. The annual production is 18,000 bottles and the first vintage was in 2001. It can be found under the denomination Etna Rosso DOP or IGP Terre Siciliane Nerello Mascalese.

Taste

MunJebel Rosso stands out for its balance between tannins and the sweetness of ripe fruit. It is a genuine expression of Nerello Mascalese, offering a taste experience that reflects the traditional and rich characteristics of the Northern Etna Valley. Its production and ageing in neutral epoxy tanks give it a purity and authenticity that highlights the essence of the variety and the terroir from which it originates.
