Description
Dönnhoff Tonschiefer Riesling Trocken stands out for its deep connection with the black-grey dry slate soils that predominate on the slopes of the Leistenberg. These soils are ideal for the production of elegant wines, which is why this Riesling is named after this type of rock.
Winemaking
Made from Riesling grapes, this wine comes from vines aged between 25 and 45 years, which guarantees exceptional ripeness and concentration of fruit. The yield from these vineyards is approximately 45 hl/ha, and the harvest is carried out selectively by hand, ensuring that only the best grapes are used in the winemaking process. The fermentation and maturation process takes place in both stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels, giving the wine a unique structure and complexity.
Taste
Dönnhoff Tonschiefer Riesling Trocken is characterised by a fruity aroma full of finesse, influenced by the slate from which it originates. On the palate, there is an elegant and well-balanced interplay of acidity, which highlights the wine's fruity and mineral notes. In addition, James Suckling, a renowned wine critic, highlights its nose of summer flowers and persimmon, and mentions that it is juicy and generous on the palate, with a touch of tannin underlining the long, slatey finish.
