Description

Château Musar Hochar is described as the second wine of Chateau Musar, because its style has certain similarities with the flagship wine. However, this is not entirely true, as its vineyards, blend and ageing are very different.
Château Musar Hochar takes four years to make, its main blend being the red varieties Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes come from a single vineyard near the village of Beka and Aana Valley, characterised by deep soils on limestone. With an average age of 30 years, the yields of these vines are low, ranging from 20-30 hl per hectare.

Winemaking

The three varieties are fermented separately in cement tanks, then aged for 6 to 9 months in French oak Nevers barrels before final blending at bottling(no fining or filtration). After several years of maturation in bottle, the wines are marketed four years after the harvest.

Taste

Château Musar Hochar offers a unique sensory experience. The nose is intense with notes of sweet spices, vanilla, leather, tobacco, a touch of animal and balsamic. On the palate, it is elegant, with perfect acidity, a touch of iron and a lingering finish.
This wine goes well with stews, roasted meats and tuna. It should be decanted one hour before serving at a temperature of 16-18°C.
