Description
Caus Lubis is a true representation of the passion and dedication to viticulture in the Penedès region. This red wine is a pure manifestation of seduction and elegance, conveyed by a ripe single varietal Merlot that perfectly reflects its terroir.
Carlos Esteva, a lover of Pomerol wines, was a pioneer in introducing this variety to the Penedès in 1981. The vineyard where this Merlot is grown, called Viña El Ros, is located in the Massís del Garraf, at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level. The soil is clayey-limestone, shallow, with a content of up to 40% active lime. This karstic area is dominated by chasms, caves and burrows, and has remains of marine fossils, which gives the wine a unique character.
Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with a pre-fermentative maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by a post-fermentative maceration. Ageing takes place in both new and used French oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, the wine is aged in the bottle for 8 years, thus guaranteeing its maximum expression and character.
Taste
Caus Lubis has a ruby red colour with garnet reflections, a sight that already anticipates the richness of its flavour. Its nose is complex, with typical varietal aromas of plum, ripe strawberry and blackberry. In addition, balsamic and mineral notes can be perceived, accompanied by spicy nuances on a toasted background.
On the palate, it is velvety and structured, with a silky and firm texture, supported by fine tanninsand a moderate but present acidity. The bouquet is lively, with ripe red fruit and undergrowth, leaving a long, persistent echo.
