Winemaking
Fermented in open stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 18 months in 500 and 600 litre French oak barrels.
Description
Breca is a single varietal wine made exclusively from Grenache grapes coming from old vineyards located in the D.O. Calatayud, specifically in the town of Munébrega, Zaragoza. This project belongs to Bodegas Breca, founded in 2005 by the Jorge Ordoñez Group, known for its focus on winemaking with indigenous Spanish grapes. Breca's vineyards are between 80 and 120 years old, having been planted between 1900 and 1940. The vines are at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level, on soils formed mainly of slate and quartzite, with thin layers of Mesozoic materials of a calcareous nature.
The climate in this area is of an extreme continental type, characterised by low rainfall and marked differences in temperature between day and night.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermentation is carried out without destemming the grapes, using barrels to complete primary fermentation and carry out malolactic fermentation spontaneously. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, with natural clarification, without filtering prior to bottling.
Taste
On the palate, Breca offers a juicy and balsamic experience, with prominent notes of black liquorice reminiscent of the famous Juanola pastilla. Its aromas combine ripe fruit and hints of vanilla that add complexity. Its character is powerful, with firm tannins and a long, lingering finish. It is ideal for pairing with red meats and game dishes, standing out as a wine of great personality and character.
