Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The intensely varietal 2020 Pago Valdebellón has intense herbal notes, very much à la Médoc, balsamic and peppery, with ripe berry fruit, ripeness (14.3% alcohol) and freshness and a round palate with round and ripe tannins. It's velvety and fine, with moderate concentration and an ethereal quality. It has power and finesse. 7,431 bottles were filled in after the wine spent 16 months in barrels, 80% of them new, but it doesn't show oak aromas or flavors. Classical and for the long haul.

Description
Abadía Retuerta Pago Valdebellón, a wine of remarkable prestige, is a pure expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This wine comes from the Abadía Retuerta winery, located in Sardón de Duero, Valladolid, in the region of Castilla y León, Spain. The vineyards, planted between 1991 and 1994, extend on north-facing slopes at altitudes of up to 850 metres, on calcareous soils of loamy texture, benefiting from a particular microclimate that contributes to the quality of the grapes.
Winemaking
The production of Abadía Retuerta Pago Valdebellón begins with a careful selection of grapes, followed by fermentation in small stainless steel tanks by parcels. After a long maceration, the wine is aged for 17 months in new French oak barrels, which gives it a noble structure and elegant expression.
Taste
Abadía Retuerta Pago Valdebellón is characterised by its complexity and generosity. On the nose, sweet spices, exotic fruits, mineral aromas, redcurrant and undergrowth stand out. On the palate, Abadía Retuerta Pago Valdebellón is a structured and complex wine, with an intense aromatic profile that includes roasted red peppers, orchard tomato, balsamic and spicy notes, and a mineral touch reminiscent of graphite and limestone. The palate is full, ample and flavoursome, surprising for its elegant and original personality. The ageing in French oak brings nuances of wood that integrate harmoniously with the ripe red fruit, resulting in a long and persistent finish.
