Description
Viña Pomal Reserva is a wine that represents the winemaking tradition of Rioja Alta, crafted by Bodegas Bilbaínas, a winery with over a hundred years of history. This wine is mainly made from the Tempranillo variety (100%) and originates from vineyards located in the municipality of Haro, La Rioja, less than 2 kilometres from the winery. The estate, with its 90 hectares, is located in a privileged enclave on the banks of the Ebro River, where the diversity of soils and solar exposure allow for precision viticulture. The soils in which the vines grow are varied, which contributes to the complexity of the wines.
Winemaking
Viña Pomal Reserva follows a traditional vinification process, starting with the destemming and crushing of the grapes. A long maceration is carried out and, after alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked and lightly clarified before being transferred to barrels. The wine is aged for 18 months in American oak barrels (20% new) with three rackings for natural clarification. After the time in barrel, the wine is bottled and aged for a minimum of two years before being released onto the market.
Taste
Viña Pomal Reserva is characterised by its intense cherry colour with a well-defined ruby rim. On the nose, it offers an elegant and complex aroma, with notes of red fruits and flowers, nuanced with sweet spices such as vanilla and roasted aromas. On the palate, it is a persistent wine with a remarkable balance, reflecting the greatness of the great Riojas.
