Description

Alice Bouvot founded L'Octavin in Arbois, Jura, driven by an unshakeable conviction: wine should be an honest translation of the soil and the moment. No artifice. L'Octavin Le Roi was born of this same philosophy, but with an eye for the granite of Alsace and the nobility of a 50-year-old Riesling vineyard in Ergersheim, cultivated by Philippe Brand under biodynamic certification (Demeter). It was a radical gamble: moving whole bunches of grapes from Alsace to Jura, vinifying them without a safety net - no sulphites, no filtering, no corrections - and trusting the grapes, the soil and the weather to speak for themselves.

Winemaking

The grapes for L'Octavin Le Roi are harvested by hand and sorted in the vineyard. The bunches arrive intact at the winery, where they macerate for 15 days with skins, stems and indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. This gentle carbonic maceration allows the wine to extract structure, texture and complexity without losing freshness. After pressing, the must is left to ferment spontaneously and then aged on lees until bottling, which takes place in May of the following year. There are no additives. No corrective. Just the pulse of the terroir and Alice's intuition.

Taste

L'Octavin Le Roi does not present itself: it bursts forth. Aromatically, it is wild and changing. At first, notes of ripe fruit dominate -candiedmandarin, baked apple, dried apricot -wrapped in a slightly cloudy veil of yeast, orange zest, sweet spices and an almost menthol flash reminiscent of eucalyptus. There is a palpable, almost electric, mineral background that betrays the granitic origin.

On the palate, L'Octavin Le Roi enters dry, direct, with a sharp, lively acidity that runs across the palate like a trace of wet chalk. The tannins of peel and stalk are present but well-integrated, providing structure without rusticity. The wine evolves towards notes of candied citrus, spiced bread and a saline echo that stretches on the finish, leaving a sense of clean, raw purity. This is not an easy or complacent wine: it is vibrant, uncompromising, deeply alive. A sensory experience that invites you to think, to chew, to drink slowly.
