Description

From its inception, L'Octavin Grenabar was conceived as a rebellious homage to the liveliest and most sincere French south. The collaboration between Alice Bouvot -a key figure of natural wine in the Jura- and Rémi Pujol -defender of a viticulture without artifice in Languedoc- was born from a shared harvest and a common intuition: to unite Garnacha and Cariñena in equal parts to capture the essence of the land. A brave bet, without a net, that sought purity and contrast, expression and tension.

The terroir where these grapes are grown - the Rémi vineyards in Languedoc - is dry, chalky, exposed to wind and sun. The vines, forced to sink their roots deep, produce low yields and intense fruit. Here, the wine-growing tradition is as robust as the character of the people who cultivate it: no make-up, no concessions.

Winemaking

The Garnachas were vinified whole, without destemming, in a 15-day maceration that extracted subtle aromas, fine tannins and a slight rusticity reminiscent of scrubland. At the same time, the Cariñena was directly pressed, providing fluidity, nerve and lively acidity. Both musts were blended in April, and L'Octavin Grenabar was bottled without ageing or added sulphites in June of the same year. An exercise in minimal intervention to let the vineyard do the talking.

Taste

L'Octavin Grenabar has a translucent, almost playful red colour that invites a carefree sip. On the nose, notes of macerated raspberries, wild cherries and an ethereal floral background - between dried rose and peony - unfold. The presence of mild spices, such as clove or pink pepper, intertwines with a fresh, herbal echo, reminiscent of dried thyme or hibiscus tea.

On the palate, L'Octavin Grenabar is agile, with clean acidity that crosses the palate like a chalk line. The fruit remains juicy without being exuberant. It is a wine of nervous freshness, with barely perceptible tannin, which leaves room for the soil, the southern air, and a light salinity that caresses the finish. A wine that does not seek to impress, but to accompany, insinuating with delicacy and truth. Ideal for those who value restrained energy and liquid sincerity.
