Description
Bertha Umami is one of the white wines of the year from the renowned Bertha winery, located in the heart of the Penedès region.
This wine is the result of a meticulous selection of grapes and a careful winemaking process that seeks to highlight the unique characteristics of each variety. It is made from a blend of four main varieties: Xarel.lo, Macabeu, Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay, with Xarel.lo and Macabeu being the main ones (80%), from vineyards 65 years old and resting on a chalky clay soil.
Winemaking
From cultivation to harvest, every step is carried out with precision. The vines are carefully tended, with intelligent pruning to ensure the highest quality. An ecological approach has been maintained, respecting the herbaceous layer when necessary and prioritising the health and sustainability of the plant.
The grapes are harvested by hand, using 25-kilo crates to ensure that the grapes are kept in perfect condition. A distinctive detail is that the bunches are frozen before pressing. This step delays fermentation and improves the extraction of the pulp adhering to the grape skins.
Finally, fermentation is carried out with selected yeasts at low temperatures. Finally, the wine rests on the lees for 4 months in stainless steel tanks, which gives it a unique texture and flavour.
Taste
Bertha Umami is characterised by an intense nose of acidic fruits such as orange and apple at first. This is followed by notes of tropical fruit and flowers, adding further complexity to the wine's aromatic profile.
The palate is full and complex, with a citrus and dry finish that makes it particularly suitable for pairing with dishes such as sushi.
