Description
Arzuaga Reserva Especial is a premium wine produced by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, located in Quintanilla de Onésimo, Valladolid, in the prestigious Ribera del Duero appellation. This wine is made from 93% Tempranillo grapes and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, coming from centenary vineyards, whose age of more than 90 years guarantees a low production and a high concentration of aromas and flavours. The vineyards are located at different altitudes and in clay-limestone soils, which gives the wine great complexity and richness. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected.
Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with a manual selection of bunches, followed by vatting without the use of machinery. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in wooden vats, while malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels. Ageing takes place for 29 months in oak barrels, which gives the wine a remarkable structure and aromatic complexity.
Taste
Arzuaga Reserva Especial stands out for its great aromatic complexity. On the nose, it shows a high intensity of fruity aromas, which are combined with spicy notes, hints of tobacco and caramel, coming from its ageing in oak barrels. On the palate, it is a fleshy, creamy and unctuous wine, with a characteristic freshness that balances the flavours. The tannins are soft but present, giving it a silky and enveloping texture. In the retronasal, balsamic and mineral touches are perceived again, as well as hints of leather and oak, which reinforces its elegant and persistent character.
