Description
The Cos Cerasuolo di Vittoria wine is an authentic expression of southeastern Sicily, specifically of the Vittoria region. This wine is the result of the combination of two different grape varieties: Frappato di Vittoria, which represents 40% of the blend, and Nero d'Avola, which occupies the remaining 60%. Both varieties grow in a red soil of medium consistency, formed by sub-apennine sands of Pliocene origin, of a limestone-siliceous nature. At an altitude of 230 metres above sea level, the vines, with an average age of 25 years, are cultivated under the Guyot pruning system, with a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested at the end of September and beginning of October. In the winery, spontaneous fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts and in contact with the skins. The wine is aged in Slovenian oak casks and then remains in the bottle for a few months before being put on the market.
Taste
Cos Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a ruby-coloured wine with aromas of fruit, leather, orange peel and sanguine nuances. In addition, there is an earthy side reminiscent of mushrooms and wet earth, accompanied by notes of cassis, blackberries, blueberries and a final touch of violets. On the palate, this wine surprises with a robust body, super smooth tannins and high acidity.
