Features

Description

Benoît Lahaye Le Jardin de la Grosse Pierre Grand Cru champagne is a rare and exquisite blend of grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Arbanne, Chasselas, Petit Meslier, Gros Plant, Teinturier and others. This blend comes from a single plot called Le Jardin de la Grosse Pierre, located in Bouzy Grand Cru, with brown clay soils. The oldest vines in this plot were planted in 1923 by Benoît's great-grandfather, who over time replaced some dead vines with other varieties, many of them unknown or forgotten.

Winemaking

Until 2009, the wine from this plot was blended with wines from other plots. However, after tasting it separately, Benoît recognised its unique character and decided to create a special cuvée from it. Depending on the vintage, this wine is aged for less than a year in old 225-litre barrels, bottled unfiltered and then kept for approximately two more years in bottle before release. This entire process is done without any added sugar in the shipment(zero dosage), and production is extremely limited, with only 140 cases produced.

Taste

Benoît Lahaye Le Jardin de la Grosse Pierre Grand Cru stands out for its powerful and complex taste. On the palate, this wine offers notes of fresh cream, orchard fruits, ginger and brioche, providing an umami and mineral experience. The finish is persistent and stimulating, leaving a refreshing and long-lasting sensation in the mouth. This wine is not only robust and built to last over time, but it is also capable of provoking an emotional connection with the taster, being described as a wine that is already surprising despite its youth.
