Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2015 was a warm and powerful year with tannins, and the 2015 Reserva shows ripeness and jammy fruit, with plenty of spice and a powerful, full-bodied palate. It has 14.2% alcohol and a pH of 3.55. They used a little new oak here, 20%, and they used mostly French (70%) but also 30% American oak barrels, where the wine matured for 17 months. They like this style of San Vicente, powerful and ripe fruit, concentrated and expressive. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2019. It's aging quite slowly.

Features

Description

The Sierra Cantabria Reserva wine is made in the denomination of origin of La Rioja, more specifically in Fuente de La Salud, in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This red wine is the result of a deep-rooted family tradition, in a home that has been dedicated to wine production since 1870.
The chalky clay soil in which the vines grow provides the necessary conditions for the fruit to develop just the right amount of tannins, ideal for a full-bodied, full-flavoured red wine. The result is simply incredible.

Winemaking

The first step to follow includes harvesting and destemming, which are carried out by hand, selecting the best fruit. In this process, large quantities of the tempranillo variety are harvested to extract the must, which then undergoes a ten-day fermentation process with the region's own yeasts.
After this first procedure, the must undergoes a maceration with the skins that lasts approximately eleven more days. Finally, this wine is aged in French and American oak barrels until the malolactic fermentation process is completed. After 18 months it is ready for bottling.

Taste

Its olfactory note is reminiscent of spices and vanilla notes, with light warm and intense nuances. On the palate, its flavour is reminiscent of ripe forest fruits and balsamic and vanilla flavour accents.

An eco-friendly bet

Each of the vineyards in which the grapes are harvested are worked exclusively using integrated agriculture. In addition, the fertiliser used is completely organic, so you don't have to worry about the content of chemicals or pesticides.
It is ideal to accompany game, red meats and mature cheeses.
If you haven't tried it yet, it's not too late!
