Description
Bodega Matassa was founded in 2001 by the South African Tom Lubbe. For the elaboration of this wine, they work with a great variety of native grapes such as Garnacha, Cariñena and Monastrell. It is located 450 metres above sea level, which determines the influence of the Mediterranean Sea in flavours and aromas.
It has an annual yield of 3,500 kg per hectare and is characterised by the manual harvesting of the fruit, working with the fruit's own yeasts. Its wines are defined as pleasant, fresh and vibrant.
Winemaking
This wine is a natural red wine made from a blend of Cariñena and Garnacha gris and Garnacha roja grapes, from plantations over a hundred years old. It is made by hand harvesting the grapes and vinification is carried out on whole bunches, without destemming. The must is then macerated for 3 weeks, gently pressed and alcoholic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks.
Fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts and after fermentation the wine is aged for 9 months in the same 2000 litre tanks. The Tattouine is then bottled without filtering or fining.
Taste
Matassa Tattouine Rouge is a light and fresh wine. Its flavours and aromas are dominated by fruit flavours, with red and black fruits being the most important. Its aroma is reminiscent of spices and the character of the Carignan grape and wild fruits.
