The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has pronounced notes of blackcurrant cordial, boysenberries, baked plums and kirsch with wafts of cloves, wild sage and woodsmoke. The full-bodied palate is a tad rustic in texture with a charry, acrid character on the finish, albeit with otherwise pleasant freshness and spiciness.

Description
Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill comes from the renowned Diamond Creek Vineyards, located in the Diamond Mountain District of northern Napa Valley, California. Founded in the 1960s by Al Brounstein, Diamond Creek Vineyards' philosophy is based on the belief that different soils impart distinctive flavours to wine. The Volcanic Hill Vineyard, planted in 1968, sits on light, fluffy, ashy soil, occupying approximately 3 hectares of the total Diamond Creek estate.
Winemaking
The meticulous selection of the grapes begins with a cold maceration of 4 to 5 days, followed by fermentation lasting 7 to 9 days. Once fermentation is complete, the grapes are pressed and transferred to 100% new French oak barrels for an ageing period of 20 months.
Prior to bottling, the final blend is made up of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot.

Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill presents itself with deep, seductive aromas of dark fruits, black tea, liquorice and perfumed earth. From the first sip, its enveloping texture reveals a dark fruit profile of blackcurrant, pomegranate and cocoa, complemented by notes of blackberry brioche, blood orange, cedar and coffee. Lustrous tannins and a long, narrative finish make this wine an unforgettable experience.
