Description
Catavela wine is an orange wine made by Giulio Armani with the local white varieties 25% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Ortugo, 24% Marsanne, 24% Trebbiano, 1% Santa Maria and 1% Sauvignon Blanc. These grapes come from vineyards with an average age of 12 years, located on stony chalk soils on the top of the hill, at 650 metres, called Campo Rotonde.
Winemaking
Catavela begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes in early September. After a rigorous selection in the vineyard, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Half of the harvest is macerated for six days in contact with the skins, while the other half is pressed directly. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel for 15 days without temperature control. Subsequently, the wine spends approximately eight months on the lees without stirring, which gives the wine a certain reduction.
Taste
Catavela has aromas of tart peach and farmhouse. On the palate, this wine surprises with a creamy texture and stone fruit flavours, underlined by an important minerality. Its mouthfeel is round, accompanied by medium acidity and a medium-length finish.
