Description
Louis Latour Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru embodies the classic spirit of a historic Burgundian wine house, founded in 1797, which has always understood that the greatness of a white wine does not depend on artifice, but on its fidelity to the terroir. For this wine, the house selects Premier Cru plots in Puligny Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, always seeking balance, ripeness and consistency. The choice is no accident: this area, neighbouring some of the world’s most celebrated vineyards, shares limestone and gravel soils, as well as a cool climate that favours slow and precise ripening. Here, the Chardonnay finds one of its most noble expressions, characterised by minerality, tension and understated elegance.
Winemaking
At Louis Latour Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru, the grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the quality of the fruit right from the vineyard. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, yield low yields and highly concentrated grapes. In the cellar, the must ferments traditionally in French oak barrels, undergoing full malolactic fermentation, which adds depth and texture without compromising freshness. It is then aged for 10 months in medium-toasted barrels, 50 per cent of which are new, crafted by Louis Latour’s own cooperage. This ageing process is designed to refine the wine, not to dominate it: the oak complements, structures and adds depth, whilst always respecting the purity of the wine’s origin prior to bottling.
Taste
In the glass, Louis Latour Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru reveals an intense and refined nose, where notes of ripe white fruit intertwine with hints of exotic fruit, delicate flowers and a distinctly mineral backdrop. The oak influence is subtle, leaving delicate hints of vanilla, fresh butter and a slight toasty note. On the palate, it is full-bodied, silky and vibrant, underpinned by precise acidity that lengthens the finish and lends freshness. The finish is long, elegant and harmonious, bearing the hallmark of a Burgundy white wine that combines body, tension and distinction. Ideal for those seeking a top-tier Chardonnay with depth, finesse and authentic terroir character.
