Buy Wine from Alain Graillot
Domaine Alain Graillot is located in the Crozes-Hermitage region, near the village of Pont-de-l'Isère. This winery was founded in 1985 when Alain Graillot acquired 20 hectares of vineyards. Although at that time Crozes-Hermitage was not considered part of the Northern Rhône elite, Alain had the vision to raise the syrah wines of this region to a level comparable with neighbouring appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Cornas or Côte-Rôtie.
The first vines on the domaine's land were planted in the late 1960s by a vigneron who had arrived in France in 1962. Alain, an electrochemical engineer, settled at the Domaine in 1985 and took over the property definitively in 1988. Under his direction, new cellars and offices were built. In 1989, he presented his first wine entirely made by himself, from vinification to bottling. Since 2008, his sons, Maxime and Antoine Graillot, have taken over the reins of the property.Vineyards
The domaine covers a total of 22 hectares, of which 19 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Syrah and 3 hectares to white wines, mainly Marsanne and a little Roussanne. It is located in the heart of the alluvial plain of La Roche-de-Glun, characterised by pure galets and gravels. This location allows to produce finer and more structured syrahs than most of those of the region.
Philosophy
Alain Graillot's philosophy has always been clear: to take the syrahs of Crozes-Hermitage to another dimension. To achieve this, he drastically reduced yields and started working the vineyard under an organic regime. His wines not only age spectacularly, but are also accessible during their youth. The domaine has succeeded in imposing a style that emphasises the freshness of the wines, vinified in whole grape harvest. Alain Graillot 's wines offer immediate pleasure, but also have the ability to age with complexity for a decade or more.
