Buy Wine with Malvasía
Malvasía is an ancient and traditional variety from the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula. It is remarkably vigorous and its crops are high when the stock is young. Malvasía has mid budding and late ripening. It is prone to mildew and botrytis cinerea, but it adapts well to mountainsides and warm soils.
Malvasía variety has aroused controversy amongst wine producers: some supporters cherish the intensity of its scent, with floral notes from lime-tree, acacia, orange flower and bay leaves as well as orange fruits, peach and melon that are intrinsic features of Malvasía wine; critics point out the propensity to oxidize, which causes loss of aroma and poor ageing capacity. Despite this, acidity and alcohol levels are normal.
