Description

In Estiria(Steiermark), that "green heart" of Austria where rain and light alternate without asking permission, Franz Strohmeier decided years ago that wine should not be "made", but happen. Together with Christine, he pushes a radically honest philosophy: natural wine, only grapes and harvest, without adding or subtracting, letting the vineyard command and the winery only accompany. In a humid and demanding region, he took courageous decisions - such as taking minimal intervention and minimal pruning practices to the extreme - to seek natural balance in the plant: less noise, more energy, more truth.

Strohmeier Blanc de Blancs is born from this pulse with the land. Austrian Estiria brings a very particular tension: altitude, cool nights, slow ripening and a minerality that feels more "rocky" than "fruity". The cuvée is made up of equal parts Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Bronner, a trio that here does not seek exuberance, but precision. It is an ancestral sparkling wine for those who enjoy the edge: not a "pretty" wine, but a wine with character.

Winemaking

In Strohmeier Blanc de Blancs, the grapes go in with a clear idea: to preserve freshness and texture without make-up. Fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts and the wine is bottled to finish its journey in the bottle using the ancestral method (pet-nat): a single fermentation that is "closed" while the wine is still alive, trapping its natural CO₂. Ageing is geared more towards retaining tension than rounding corners; straight lines are preferred here rather than velvet. Served well chilled (6-8 ºC), the wine refines its verticality.

Taste

In Strohmeier Blanc de Blancs, a reductive point may appear at the beginning, like a dull match or wet stone: a nod of depth rather than a defect. Give it some air and a stream of tense citrus fruit - lime, lemon peel, white grapefruit - appears against a saline, cold, almost metallic background. The bubbles are fine and lively, more of a mountain stream than a party.

The palate is dry, direct, with a crisp acidity that narrows the contours and lengthens the drink. The fruit plays in the background - green apple, crisp pear - while the finish insists on stone, salt and an almost electric cleanliness. A natural sparkling wine for palates that prefer the mineral, the austere and the tremendously refreshing.
