Description
Principiano Ferdinando Barolo Boscareto is a wine that comes from a single vineyard, Boscareto, located in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. This wine stands out for being made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The vineyard is over 40 years old, which gives a unique richness and complexity to the final product.
Winemaking
This wine is made in a very traditional way. It is not destemmed and is pressed in open vats with the feet, thus avoiding the use of mechanical presses. For fermentation, indigenous yeasts are used and no sulphur is added. Maceration varies between 40 and 90 days, depending on the characteristics of the grapes of each vintage. It is aged in 4,000-litre oak barrels for 36 months and then rests for at least another 12 months in the bottle.
Taste
Principiano Ferdinando Barolo Boscareto has a garnet red colour. On the nose, it offers clear and precise aromas of ripe red fruits, such as small berries, but also trunk fruits such as plum and black cherry. On the nose, floral notes and more complex aromas of undergrowth, roots and bark and rhubarb. Aromatic herbs and sweet spices complement its aromatic profile.
On the palate, this wine has great structure. The balance between hardness and softness results in a balanced wine, where acidity, minerality and astringency are protagonists. On the other hand, the smoothness, the alcohol content, the sugar alcohols and a slight residual sugar give the wine body, giving it a dense and traditional texture.
