Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2023 Meursault Village (Maison Louis Jadot) is one of the biggest cuvées produced by the house, amounting to some 250 barrels this year. Medium to full-bodied, rich and generous, it's a textural, charming wine that will drink well young.

Features

Description

Founded in 1859, Louis Jadot is one of the most authentic voices of Burgundy's vineyards. Faithful to a philosophy that privileges the expression of terroir over technique, the winery produces wines that clearly convey the character of each plot. In Meursault, one of the most renowned villages in the Côte de Beaune for white wines, he found an ideal terroir: east-facing slopes between 230 and 360 metres above sea level, with limestone and marl soils that bring tension and depth to the Chardonnay. The decision to intervene as little as possible in the cellar, but with precision, speaks of Louis Jadot 's respect for the identity of origin. Louis Jadot Meursault comes from vines that are carefully worked and harvested by hand in small crates, each cluster being carefully selected to preserve its freshness.

Winemaking

The vinification of Louis Jadot Meursault begins with a gentle pressing to extract only the purest must. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in oak barrels, with one-third new barrels, adding complexity and structure without dominating the wine's profile. After fermentation, Louis Jadot Meursault is aged for about 15 months on fine lees, with moderate bâtonnage. This process adds texture, unctuousness and depth, delicately integrating the nuances of the oak and enhancing the natural richness of the Chardonnay grown in Meursault.

Taste

On the nose, Louis Jadot Meursault displays a range of aromas from ripe white fruits - pear, baked apple - to notes of fresh butter, brioche and toasted almond. There are also mineral echoes, such as wet chalk and limestone, which add aromatic structure. The palate is enveloping and silky, with an admirable balance between volume and freshness. Flavours of white peach, citrus peel, hazelnut and a delicate touch of spice from the oak mark the passage. Well-integrated acidity supports a long, saline and elegant finish. Louis Jadot Meursault is classic, expressive and refined, ideal both to enjoy now and to cellar for a few years to discover its evolution towards deeper, honeyed notes.
