Description

The history of Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru stems from an unwavering commitment to Burgundian tradition and respect for the terroir. In the commune of Vougeot, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the maison Louis Jadot cultivates 2.5 hectares within the mythical Clos de Vougeot, one of Burgundy's most emblematic Grand Cru. The vineyard, facing east and planted on calcareous soils with abundant stones, offers a natural drainage that favours a balanced ripening of the grapes. Only Pinot Noir, as the appellation demands, but here the soil speaks more than the variety. Jadot took the courageous decision to reduce yields and prioritise extreme quality, renouncing volume in order to bottle purity. This philosophy translates into a sober, profound wine that expresses the character of the Clos with mineral clarity.

Winemaking

The production of Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru begins with a manual harvest in small crates, preserving the integrity of the fruit from the vineyard. The grapes are meticulously selected by hand and destemmed before fermenting in open wooden or stainless steel vats. The maceration, lasting 3 to 4 weeks, is accompanied by two pigeage per day, which allows for a delicate extraction of tannins, colour and structure. Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with a third in new barrels, bringing complexity and depth without altering the authentic expression of the terroir.

Taste

On the nose, Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru unfolds with finesse: black cherry, dried violet, raspberry and subtle spicy notes of cocoa, leather and undergrowth. On the palate, it is dense but controlled: a firm structure supported by vibrant acidity and well-integrated chalky tannins. Red fruit mingles with earthy hints, roasted coffee and a crisp mineral background. The finish is long, with echoes of wet stone and liquorice, showing a sober and aristocratic persistence. A thoroughbred Grand Cru, ideal for game meats, truffle dishes or washed rind cheeses. Demanding, precise and made to evolve.
