Description
La Maison Romane was born out of the deeply personal vision of Oronce de Beler, a vigneron who left city life behind to devote himself entirely to Burgundy and to a profoundly honest approach to wine. His path was not built on comfort, but on conviction: respectful work in the vineyard, minimal intervention in the cellar and a relentless pursuit of purity. He even went so far as to work with horses amongst the vines, not as a romantic gesture, but as a statement of principle. La Maison Romane Savigny-lès-Beaune, made from Pinot Noir, reflects this philosophy exactly: a wine that does not seek to impose itself by force, but through precision, transparency and a connection to the land.
It comes from the Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation, in the Côte de Beaune, a Burgundian region of great finesse, where the limestone and clay-rich slopes, the cool climate and the tradition of single-vineyard winemaking give rise to Burgundy red wines with intense aromas, natural freshness and an elegant texture. Here, Pinot Noir strikes an ideal balance between vigour and delicacy, between fruit and terroir, between apparent lightness and real depth.
Winemaking
At LaMaison Romane Savigny-lès-Beaune, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to retain only the healthiest and most expressive fruit. Fermentation takes place usingindigenous yeasts and 100 per cent whole bunches, in wooden vats, for around three weeks. Extraction is gentle, designed to preserve the character of the Pinot Noir rather than to force it. The wine is then aged for around 15 months in used barrels, with very little sulphur and minimal intervention prior to bottling. The entire process aims to respect the vineyard’s identity and allow the wine to express itself naturally.
Taste
In the glass,LaMaison Romane Savigny-lès-Beaune is refined, understated and deeply Burgundian. It reveals delicate red fruits, such as raspberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry, enveloped in notes of undergrowth, damp earth and a subtle hint of dried flowers. On the palate, it is juicy and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that gives it an elegant length. The finish leaves a fresh, earthy and mineral impression, with more detail and tension than volume.
