They have added Florpower to the youngish NV La Bota de Palo Cortado 102, which was previously bottled with the numbers 75 and 52 but is really from 2010 (but not legally, so it only has the vintage in Roman numbers in some markets). They have produced this wine from the very beginning to be a Palo Cortado aged in 225-liter oak barrels. After almost 12 years, the wine keeps aging and gaining in complexity and depth, but it has kept freshness because they have kept the barrels quite full and the wine is not concentrated or old; it's easy to drink and showcases the Sanlúcar style quite faithfully. I didn't quite understand this wine when it was extremely young, but I like it more and more now... 2,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.

Description
In the restless universe of the Marco de Jerez, where the boundaries between tradition and experimentation are blurring, Eduardo Ojeda and Equipo Navazos continue to challenge the mould with sensitivity and audacity. The Bota de Palo Cortado 102 "Florpower MMX" is born from this desire to listen to the vineyard and respond with oenological intelligence. The wine comes from the 2010 vintage and from an old vineyard in the historic Pago Miraflores La Baja in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, made up of two plots: one over 50 years old and the other over 80 years old. A privileged origin, marked by albariza soils, Atlantic breezes and a minerality that permeates each cluster.
From its beginnings, this wine was destined to be something special. Its profile, fine but uncompromising, young but with the structure of a veteran, overflowed with precision. Echoes of other great creations of the Florpower project can be recognised in it, but with its own identity that emerges with force. A true PaloCortado, but in a contemporary key.
Winemaking
The vinification of La Bota de Palo Cortado 102 Florpower starts with floral musts, which had a brief and almost inevitable exposure to the flor veil before being fortified at 17.5% vol. to enter oxidative ageing. The magic happens in a combination of sherry butts and 225-litre Bordeaux casks, filled to the brim to control contact with oxygen. This edition of La Bota de Palo Cortado 102 Florpower is built with several casks reminiscent of the legendary Bota 75, plus the power of one of the six barrels of Bota 52. A blend that is pure liquid goldsmithery.
The result is a wine of oxidative ageing with hints of biology, where the expression of the albariza soil remains alive, even without the protection of the flower. The minerality of Miraflores beats in every sip, like a thread that runs through time and containers.
Taste
On the nose, La Bota de Palo Cortado 102 displays a complex range: toasted nuts, citrus peel, iodine, noble woods and a dry herbaceous background reminiscent of fennel and sage. The palate is vertical, sharp, but balanced. The alcohol (just over 18%) is perfectly integrated, with a texture that caresses rather than imposes. The finish is long, saline, vibrant, almost tactile.
A wine that surprises with its freshness, depth and radical elegance. Ideal for exploring with Southeast Asian cuisine, oily fish or even spicy dishes. A bold, precise and deliciously extreme creation.
