Description

Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880 in Beaune, is one of those historic Burgundy houses that have built their identity on a simple but demanding idea: wine must speak of the place it comes from. For generations, the Drouhin family has been committed to respectful and meticulous viticulture, convinced that only a healthy vineyard can express the authenticity of the terroir. In fact, as early as the 1980s, they began to apply organic practices on many of their plots, a decision considered risky at the time in such a climatically delicate region.

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages was born precisely from this philosophy. This Burgundy wine is made from Pinot Noir sourced from different villages in the Côte de Beaune, an appellation that allows for the blending of vineyards to offer a broad and faithful vision of the area's character. The vines grow on the classic clay and limestone soils of Burgundy, a terroir that provides mineral tension, aromatic elegance and refined structure. The continental climate, with cold winters and mild summers, favours a slow ripening process that preserves the natural freshness of the variety. The result is a Burgundy Pinot Noir that is less about power and more about purity, a classic and balanced interpretation of the Burgundy landscape.

Winemaking

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages is harvested by hand in small crates. The grapes and musts are sourced from partner growers who work under strict quality specifications. After careful selection in the cellar, the grapes are completely destemmed.

Vinification includes 1 to 2 weeks of maceration and fermentation, with autochthonous or selected yeasts depending on the vintage. Pressing is carried out with vertical or pneumatic presses to preserve the purity of the Pinot Noir.

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages is then aged in French oak barrels - 15 to 20% new -for 10 to 14 months. During the ageing process, each decision is based on tastings and technical analyses, always prioritising the expression of the terroir and the character of the vintage.

Taste

In the glass, Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages presents a bright, delicate and luminous ruby red colour. The nose opens with fresh notes of cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, accompanied by floral nuances of violet and a light spicy background.

The palate is silky and balanced, with fine tannins and a lively acidity that brings energy. The red fruits are clearly expressed, accompanied by subtle notes of damp earth and a delicate mineral touch. The finish is fresh and elegant, lingering with hints of small red berries, leaving a refined and very Burgundian sensation.
