Description
Constantina Sotelo Volandeira is a non-designation of origin white wine made by Constantina Sotelo at her micro-winery in Cambados, Galicia, in the Salnés Valley area. The winery, run by Sotelo since 1985, cultivates free-standing vineyards near the Ría de Arousa, and is noted for its focus on minimal intervention. The vineyards are located on soils of granitic decomposition and marine sediments, which gives the wine its characteristic salinity and minerality.
Winemaking
Constantina Sotelo Volandeira is composed 100% of the Albariño grape variety, and comes from vineyards of just over 2 hectares located near the sea. For the production of Volandeira, a manual harvest is used, followed by a direct pressing. Alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts and takes place in chestnut barrels. Ageing also takes place in these barrels, where the wine rests on its fine lees, providing complexity and body.
Taste
Constantina Sotelo Volandeira is an authentic expression of its coastal terroir. On the nose, floral notes are perceived, reminiscent of the Galician mountains, with a marked maritime influence. On the palate, the wine shows its full power: an explosion of salinity, accompanied by remarkable minerality and vibrant citrus acidity. The flavours evoke hints of fresh oysters and a light iodised touch, making it an ideal accompaniment to seafood dishes. This structure makes Volandeira a persistent and complex wine, inviting you to discover new layers with each sip.
