Description
Barón de Chirel Verdejo is a white wine belonging to the Marqués de Riscal winery and produced in Castilla y León, under the PGI denomination. As its name suggests, it is a single varietal wine made from the Verdejo grape variety, which is highly appreciated in this autonomous community.
The vineyards from which the fruit is extracted have been planted at an altitude of over 800 metres above sea level, on sandy and granitic soils. They are located in the province of Segovia and their main characteristic is that they are more than a century old, as well as being pre-phylloxera.
Elaboration
First of all, the grapes are harvested by hand, which includes the process of sorting and destemming the fruit. For this variety, only the free-run juice is used, which flows naturally as a result of gravity when the grapes are poured into the press.
Once the extraction process is complete, the wine undergoes a period of ageing on fine lees and a stay in French oak barrels for approximately six months. The result is a delicate, light final product with unmistakable flavours.
Taste
On the nose, its aroma is reminiscent of dry grass and ripe green fruits. On the palate, it is perceived as a creamy and dense wine, with balanced acidity and mineral notes of great intensity. The finish is long and its aftertaste retains a bitter nuance characteristic of Verdejo.
A centuries-old tradition
The vineyards used in the production of this characteristic wine date back to cultivations of more than a hundred years located in Aldehuela and Aldanueva del Codonal. It is a grape variety characteristic of the area, capable of producing unique wines, ideal for a memorable evening.
