Buy Wine with Hárslevelu
Hárslevelu is a variety original from Hungary. Its name means “lime tree leave” in clear reference to the aroma that Hárslevelu wines have. It is a fruitful variety, with medium budding and late ripening. Its clusters are big and loose, with mid to big berries of thin skin. It is prone to frost damage and sensitive to drought and powdery mildew. It is suitable for the warm volcanic soils of the region. It is less prone to botrytis cinerea than kin variety Furmint.
Hárslevelu wines are fragrant with delicate spicy touch, adding perfume to Tokaji wines. These wines are smoother than those produced with Furmint variety and age earlier. With this grape variety both dry and sweet wines are produced, but the best examples are dense, full-bodied wines with the characteristic taste of lime tree honey and leaves.
