Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The growing season that bore the 2003 Tokaji Aszu 6-Puttonyos was apparently similar to the 2000. It delivers 228 grams per liter residual sugar with 9.4 grams per liter acidity. Lucid amber in color, it boasts an exotic, decadent bouquet of mango, molasses, Chinese 5-spice and dried quince that does not quite deliver the delineation of the best 5-Puttonyos from Oremus. The palate, however, does deliver. It has superior focus and delineation than augured by the aromatics, with vibrant marmalade and quince notes. The acidity is extremely well-judged and lends the finish the weightless intensity that makes a great aszu wine. It is just the aromatics that let the side down. Drink now-2030.

Features

Description

To speak of Tokaji Aszú is to speak of history, of a wine that has enchanted kings and writers for centuries. And within this tradition, Oremus shines with its own light. Owned by Tempos Vega Sicilia, this winery has managed to capture the purest essence of Tokaj, combining respect for the past with an impressive oenological mastery.
Their Oremus Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is a true work of art. It is made from indigenous varieties such as Furmint, Hárslevelű, Zéta and Sárga Muskotály, which grow in vineyards with mineral-rich volcanic soils. These grapes, grown in extreme climatic conditions, develop a unique aromatic concentration. The secret of their magic lies in Botrytis cinerea, the noble fungus that transforms grapes into little golden jewels full of flavour and complexity.

Winemaking

The vinification of Oremus Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is a work of patience and precision. There are no shortcuts here. The berries affected by botrytis are selected by hand, one by one. To reach the level of 6 puttonyos, 6 baskets of these grapes are added to a barrel of base must, allowing maceration to extract every drop of sweetness and character. Fermentation is slow, with Hungarian oak barrels adding a subtle spicy touch. The wine then rests in underground cellars, in a silence that seems eternal, refining for years until it reaches its maximum expression. This process results in a wine with 228 grams per litre of residual sugar, which gives it its unmistakable sweetness balanced with vibrant acidity.

Taste

If closing your eyes and tasting a wine could transport you to another place, Oremus Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos would do it without hesitation. Its amber colour shimmers like honey in the sun, and on the nose it unfolds a symphony of aromas: dried apricots, candied orange peel, a whisper of oriental spices. The palate is pure balance. Intense sweetness melds with vibrant acidity, making each sip long, elegant and, above all, unforgettable.
Oremus Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is a wine that you don't just drink, you experience. Ideal for pairing with foie gras, blue cheeses or simply to enjoy on its own, as a luxury reserved for those moments when time seems to stand still.
