The 2022 Chenin Blanc, enhanced with 4% Sauvignon Blanc, is a mineral-driven, biodynamic wine offering notes of petrichor, waxy melon, yellow apple. It has a medium body with a nutty leesy mid-palate, bright citrus acidity and a prickly finish. The fruit comes from vineyards planted in 1974 (Chenin Blanc) and 1976 (Sauvignon Blanc). Fermentation occurred spontaneously in oak and foudre before the wine was aged on the lees for 10 months. 9,800 bottles were produced.

Description
Reyneke Biodynamic Chenin Blanc is a white wine made from the Chenin Blanc variety. With an analysis showing an alcohol content of 13.38%, a pH of 3.40, a residual sugar level of 3.5 and a total acidity of 4.9, it is a clear indication of the meticulousness and care with which this wine is made. The winemaker behind this marvel is Barbara Melck, who has achieved a dry style wine with a fruity flavour, characteristic of Stellenbosch.
Winemaking
This wine has its roots in the oldest vineyards of the Reyneke estate, which have two blocks of Chenin blanc from 1974 and 1976 respectively. These vineyards are registered with the Old Vine Project (OVP) in South Africa. As for the winemaking process in the winery, the grapes are pressed in whole bunches and left to settle slightly. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in a combination of 300-litre French oak and 2,500-litre foudres. After 10 months of maturation on gross lees, the wine is racked and prepared for bottling, which takes place in early January. A light dose of sulphur is added during racking, just before bottling.
Taste
The aroma of this wine is full of fragrances of yellow apple, bright lemon, white pear, golden apple and vineyard peaches. Subtle hints of orange blossom add intrigue and give the wine a certain brightness. On the palate, this wine presents notes of lemon, quince, pear and apple, which are perfectly balanced by lively acidity. The finish is textured, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.
