Description
Reyneke Organic Cornerstone wine has been produced under the supervision of winemaker Nuschka de Vos of Reyneke Wines in the prestigious Stellenbosch wine region. It is composed of 86% Cabernet Franc and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Winemaking
It all starts with a careful manual harvesting of the grapes, which are then cooled overnight before being destemmed and sorted. Fermentation takes place in open cement vats. It is interesting to note that the Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 225-litre first year French oak barrels, while the Cabernet Franc matures in 225-litre second and third year French oak barrels. This barrel-ageing process lasts for a period of 18 months.
Taste
This wine displays intense aromas of cassis, blackberries, black cherries and tobacco. These are complemented by subtle hints of nutmeg and sandalwood. On the palate, Reyneke Cornerstone Organic is complex and layered, presenting pure red and dark fruit flavours, as well as notes of black tea and spice. What really stands out is its elegant tannic structure, well-balanced fruit concentration and bright acidity, ensuring a long finish and impressive ageing potential.
