The varietal Malvasía de Sitges 2023 Blau Cru shows the particular profile of the variety in the soils and climate of Penedès, with its savory and salty character, expressive nose and strong personality. It's planted in more fertile soils, and during the dramatic years of 2022 and 2023 (and 2024), the Malvasía de Sitges behaved very well. In 2023, the second year of drought, it resisted even better, so there's more wine and it's more complete. It was not only lack of water, it was also the consecutive heat waves. They are one of the few to prune short; and they produce a little less, but there's more homogeneous ripeness. This has incredible freshness in the context of the year and the tough Mediterranean conditions, noted by a pH of 3.02 and over eight grams of tartaric acid and still 13.73% alcohol—it didn't go through malolactic. It's an amazing wine. This is going to age nicely in bottle. 10,384 bottles and 206 magnums produced. 2023 is a year of quality and quantity. It was bottled in June 2024.
