Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Derived entirely from the 2018 vintage and sourced from Vertus and the southern Côte de Blancs, the NV Brut Nature de Craie delivers aromas of pear, almond paste, citrus oil and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, tangy and incisive, it's saline and chalky, with a pretty pinpoint mousse. It's vinified and disgorged without sulfur.

Description
In the Laherte Frères family, viticulture is not a technique: it is a lived, intimate heritage, cultivated with the same precision with which one listens to the soil. Aurélien Laherte, the seventh generation at the helm, has made respect for the terroir a radical philosophy. His cuvée Laherte Frères Nature de Craie Brut Nature Premier Cru is born with a clear premise: to let the soil, the variety and the vintage speak without intervention, without additives, without make-up. This Champagne comes from the Côte des Blancs, specifically from Vertus and Voipreux, where the chalky subsoil emerges directly under the old Chardonnay vines planted between 1960 and 1987. Here, on these low slopes, the chalk firmly imprints its character: purity, tension and verticality.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand at full maturity. The grapes are gently pressed in the traditional way, and only the purest juices are transferred by gravity to used oak barrels. Alcoholic fermentation takes place without the addition of sulphur, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine then rests on its fine lees, with some subtle batonnage to add texture without losing tension. No chemical adjustments are made, and after bottle ageing for approximately 24 months, disgorgement is done by hand. No dosage is added: Laherte Frères Nature de Craie Brut Nature Premier Cru is presented as it is, in its rawest and most honest form, as a Champagne with no dosage of radical authenticity.
Taste
From the glass, Laherte Frères Nature de Craie Brut Nature Premier Cru presents itself with a pure, direct and mineral profile. The nose displays aromas of lemon zest, white grapefruit, dried flowers, sourdough and wet stone, all enveloped in an atmosphere of fresh chalk. The palate is taut and sculpted, with a very fine bubble that caresses without distracting. The flavour moves forward with a vibrant acidity that sustains notes of green apple, raw almond and a marked salinity, almost marine. The finish is long, dry and uncompromising. Laherte Frères Nature de Craie Brut Nature Premier Cru does not seek to please everyone: it is a Champagne of terroir, with a straightforward structure, deeply mineral, for those who value precision, truth and unfiltered emotion.
