Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Derived from the 2016 vintage, the newly disgorged NV Extra-Brut Rosé de Saignée Les Beaudiers unfurls in the glass with aromas of orange rind, rose petals, red berries and dried flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's lively and perfumed, with a pinpoint mousse and a long, saline finish.

Description
In the heart of Chavot-Courcourt, on the southern slopes of Épernay, the Laherte family has been cultivating an intimate relationship with the land since 1889. Laherte Frères Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée is one of their most personal creations: a rosé Champagne made exclusively with Pinot Meunier from old vines planted in 1953, 1958 and 1965. In a region where Meunier has historically been secondary, this cuvée claims its greatness with its own voice. The soils are clayey and loamy, shallow, with the presence of flint, small stones and a calcareous subsoil that provides tension and minerality.
Aurélien Laherte decided, against the advice of many, to vinify this Meunier as a bled rosé. "It will be a wine with character, not for everyone", he said. And he succeeded: a Champagne that does not seek to please by its sweetness, but to excite by its authenticity.
Winemaking
The grapes for Laherte Frères Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée, harvested at the right point of ripeness, are hand-picked and carefully destemmed. This is followed by a short maceration of 12 to 14 hours to extract colour, structure and fruit expression. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in used barrels. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, thus preserving the natural freshness and acid tension of the wine. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 36 months on its fine lees until disgorging by hand. The dosage is minimal (between 0 and 4.5 g/l), making it an incisive and vibrant Extra Brut.
Taste
Deep pomegranate colour with ruby highlights. Laherte Frères Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée displays aromas of ripe raspberry, watermelon, pomegranate peel and dried rose petals on the nose. The palate is firm, textured, with fine, creamy bubbles that enhance the sharp acidity. Wild strawberries, dark cherry and an earthy, almost saline background are perceived. The finish is long, mineral, with a citrus and spicy echo. Laherte Frères Les Beaudiers Rosé de Saignée is not a conventional rosé Champagne: it is tense, deep and exciting. A wine with soul, for palates seeking authenticity and pure expression of terroir.
