Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The obscure white variety Incroncio Manzoni, also called Manzoni Bianco, has adapted incredibly well to the environment and produced the serious and austere Mediterranean white 2022 El Rocallís, which has a balsamic twist, abundant notes of aromatic herbs and an austerity that reflects the quality of the vineyard, which shows the Mediterranean character, and the drought. It has good weight, 13.37% alcohol, notable acidity and a low pH, reflecting freshness unusual for the 2022 vintage. The wine is chalky and dusty, like its white soils. 1,700 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023. It didn't go through malolactic fermentation and fermented and aged for five months in a diversity of materials.

Description
El Rocallís wine is a pure and authentic expression of the Penedès terroir, transmitted through the Incroccio Manzoni variety. This variety, of Italian origin from the Veneto region, is the result of a cross between Riesling and Pinot Blanc.
Carlos Esteva, a pioneer in its introduction in the Penedès, fell in love with this variety after a trip to the Treviso region. Today, he is still one of the few wineries in Spain that cultivates this variety, achieving a wine that is unlike any other.
The vineyard where this wine comes from, El Rocallís, is located in the Massís del Garraf, at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level and facing southeast. It is 40 years old, the soil is clayey-limestone, shallow, with a content of up to 40% of active lime. This loamy texture, with a basic pH of around 8, is made up of Triassic and Cretaceous dolomite limestone. It is a karst area, dominated by chasms, caves and burrows, and enriched with remains of marine fossils.
Elaboration
The grapes are gently crushed and pressed without destemming. 80% of the fermentation is spontaneous and is carried out at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 20% ferments in new French barrels. It is aged on the lees for 5 months, followed by 24 months in the bottle.
Taste
Rocallís has a golden yellow colour. On the nose, it is lively and displays notes of peach, pear, white flowers and light spicy hints of vanilla and dried fruits. On the palate, it is fine, with tender white fruit, a characteristic fresh minerality and hints of sea salt. It is an ample, balanced wine, which leaves a long and melodious finish. It is a real delight to allow this wine to run over the palate, with its raspy acidity, a slightly sweet touch and a salty touch.
