Description
The story of Domaine Vacheron is one of conviction and sensitivity to terroir. In the heart of Sancerre, where Sauvignon Blanc reigns supreme, this visionary family decided to give prominence to Pinot Noir, interpreted from a radically honest perspective: no make-up, no oak, just soil, grapes and patience. The origins of Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Marnes lie in a unique plot of land dominated by calcareous marl - that mixture of clay and limestone that gives the wine a telluric tension and a precise minerality. The region's climate, with cool days and cold nights, favours slow ripening, resulting in delicate wines with crisp fruit and refined structure. In this ungenerous soil, the vines work hard, and this effort translates into depth. Biodynamics is not a label here: it is a philosophy carried out with rigour and sensitivity, respecting the natural cycles and always working according to the pure expression of the place.
Winemaking
In the winery, the grapes are harvested by hand, bunch by bunch, in the early hours of the day, when the coolness still envelops the hillsides of Sancerre. They are carefully destemmed and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, respecting the natural pulse of each vintage. The ageing of Vacheron Sancerre Les Marnes takes place in used oak barrels for about 12 months, allowing the wine to breathe without losing its identity. There is no fining or aggressive filtration: everything is done with the intention of preserving the wine's lively texture. The result is a pure Pinot Noir, without artifice, which exudes the mineral finesse of the marl and the precision of craftsmanship. The bottling is done without filtering, keeping intact the energy that runs from the vine to the glass.
Taste
Vacheron Sancerre Les Marnes has a subtle and precise nose: fresh raspberries, sour cherry, a faint whisper of wild flowers and a note of wet chalk that anchors everything in the earth. On the palate, the wine is direct but refined, with soft tannins and a vibrant acidity that lengthens the passage. The texture is agile, almost aerial, but with a presence that does not dissolve: it leaves a trace of freshness, a spicy touch and a minerality reminiscent of broken stone after rain. A Pinot Noir of extreme purity, without artifice, where the soil speaks clearly and the wine flows with essential elegance.
