Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red rarely reaches the same complexity and elegance as the white, as I see in the Escolma range. The red 2015 A Torna dos Pasás Escolma is a dark blend of Brancellao, Caíño Longo, Ferrol and Caíño Redondo with a rustic earthy touch, black berries and some spices. It was produced with the grapes from the oldest vineyards they have, and it fermented destemmed, with a three-week maceration and punch-downs twice per day. It matured in new or semi-new oak barrels for 12 months. It's kept in bottle for three years before it's released. In 2015, the red grapes ripened properly, and the wine is quite powerful, with 13% alcohol and fine tannins, with balance and a juicy texture. This has character, more austere and backward, not exuberant at all. There were 2,100 bottles, 100 magnums and 20 double magnums produced. It was bottled in December 2016.
