Buy Wine from Alemany i Corrió
The Alemany i Corrió winery is located in the picturesque town of Vilafranca del Penedès, in Catalonia, Spain. This region is widely recognised for its rich winemaking tradition and its appellation of origin, DO Penedès. The winery was founded in 1999 by Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrio, a couple with a shared vision and passion for viticulture. Irene, originally from Catalonia, and Laurent, from Burgundy, France, bring a unique blend of winemaking traditions and techniques from both regions.
Vineyards
The Alemany i Corrió vineyards extend over 8 hectares in Lavern, situated on gentle slopes with gradients varying between 5 and 15%. The soil in this area is ideal for growing vines, contributing significantly to the quality and character of their wines. The grape varieties grown include 24 year old Merlot, 26 year old Cabernet Sauvignon and a small portion of 60 year old Carignan. In addition, they have introduced white varieties such as Xarel-lo, Chardonnay and Malvasia, and are considering exploring the possibility of exploring indigenous varieties such as Sumoll.
The winery practices sustainable agriculture, rejecting the use of chemicals and non-organic fertilisers. Canopy management is carried out to reduce yields and achieve optimal phenolic ripeness, resulting in high quality grapes and wines with an authentic expression of the terroir.
Philosophy
Alemany i Corrió 's philosophy focuses on making wines that are a genuine expression of their terroir. They strive to keep intervention to a minimum during the winemaking process, using natural yeasts for alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. The winery has created a simple winery in a former unit on the industrial side of Vilafranca, just behind the Torres facility, where Laurent worked temporarily on the bottling line. They have built their own tanks and, although they rely on the skills of coopers in Burgundy for their barrels, much of the construction and equipment of their cellar has been "home-made".
During vinification, pump-overs are carried out in the absence of oxygen, and rackings to barrel are done with the aid of nitrogen and carbon dioxide by gravity to prevent oxidation. This artisanal approach ensures that each wine reflects the essence of its origin, with meticulous attention to every detail of the process.
In short, Alemany i Corrió is a winery that combines tradition with innovation, respecting its environment and producing wines that are true to their origin. With a limited production and a focus on quality over quantity, they have managed to establish themselves as a benchmark in the Penedès region and in the world of wine in general.
